I painted this from memory. While walking through a bird sanctuary, I remember enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature and the reflections in the water. Looking up, toward the horizon I saw a city, a fog caressing its buildings. Suddenly, it was transformed into a mysterious and magical place.
I have many wonderful cousins. As an only child, I spent all my summer vacations with them. It was a time of wonder for me. Elise is one of my Brittany cousins; we were born the same year, a few months apart. We both loved to draw. We bore our first-born a few months apart. I wanted to paint her daughter, Sandrine I did it mostly from memory. Now, Sandrine is an artist herself.
I have always been reluctant to paint an interior scene. I took the challenge using a bit of imagination. I am pleased with the result. The colors are cheerful. I would love to sit in that room dreaming about the sea. Two statues are conversing.
In January 2007, I decided to paint miniatures every day. I began with the 2" x 2" paintings on wood displayed on this page. I became fascinated with these creations and I just could not wait for the next day to paint a new one, then two, then three.....I do enjoy the discipline of painting every day and the fact that at the end of the evening I have a number of completed works on my desk. I also began larger pieces on paper and canvas which can be viewed by clicking here.
